Although NAID membership has been replaced by i-SIGMA, some service providers continue to highlight NAID in their credentials. Unfortunately, this means NAID membership is often confused with <a href=\"https:\/\/quantumlifecycle.com\/en_CA\/whitepapers\/why-our-standards-matter-to-you\/\">NAID AAA certification<\/a>, a different qualification altogether. To clear up any grey areas, i-SIGMA has retired the NAID membership logo. Here\u2019s why it matters when you choose a provider.<\/p>\n<h2>What Is NAID\/i-SIGMA Membership?<\/h2>\n<p>According to i-SIGMA, the NAID membership logo and claim are now defunct and should no longer be used by businesses. Instead, they are to refer to themselves as i-SIGMA members.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/isigmaonline.org\/\">i-SIGMA<\/a> is \u201cthe trade association for secure information lifecycle management.\u201d They act as the governing body for <a href=\"https:\/\/quantumlifecycle.com\/en_CA\/blog\/a-guide-to-erasure-vs-degaussing-vs-shredding\/\">shredding<\/a> operations across the globe and oversee four key components of information management:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Physical records and information storage<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/quantumlifecycle.com\/en_CA\/blog\/quantums-value-during-a-recession\/\">Data protection<\/a> and media vaulting<\/li>\n<li>Digitizing and scanning<\/li>\n<li>Confidential records and information destruction services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are several tiers of i-SIGMA membership available. For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/isigmaonline.org\/membership\/member-benefits\/\">i-SIGMA Service Provider<\/a> memberships offer a number of perks, including discounted attendance to events, the ability to connect to an exclusive professional community, access to publications, and resources such as webinars and other training materials.<\/p>\n<p>Importantly, however, i-SIGMA membership (formerly NAID membership) is not the same as NAID AAA certification.<\/p>\n<h2>What Is NAID AAA Certification?<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/isigmaonline.org\/certifications\/naid-aaa-certification\/\">NAID AAA Certification<\/a> is a globally recognized qualification that illustrates <a href=\"https:\/\/quantumlifecycle.com\/en_CA\/blog\/what-are-the-benefits-of-quantums-customer-portal\/\">compliance<\/a> with all known <a href=\"https:\/\/quantumlifecycle.com\/en_CA\/blog\/how-canadas-privacy-laws-are-being-updated-what-it-could-mean-for-the-public-sector\/\">data protection laws<\/a>. To qualify for the certification, <a href=\"https:\/\/quantumlifecycle.com\/en_CA\/blog\/a-look-into-how-itad-is-changing\/\">data destruction<\/a> companies must first become active members of i-SIGMA. Yet, while an i-SIGMA member <i>can <\/i>become NAID AAA certified, not all i-SIGMA members hold this title.<\/p>\n<p>Following i-SIGMA membership, prospective NAID AAA certified companies must submit an application and undergo an audit. The results will then be submitted by the NAID auditor to the Certification Review Board.<\/p>\n<p>To become certified, businesses must be well-managed under standardized procedures and compliant with all applicable regulations. NAID AAA certification may apply to physical destruction or electronic media overwriting operations.
